Every year since 1992, wreaths from Maine have been transported to Arlington National Cemetery to be placed on the graves of veterans for the holiday. Since that time, Wreaths Across America has become an annual national endeavor. The escort to Arlington starts December 6, 2015 in Harrington Maine, and finishes on December 12, 2015 at Arlington National Cemetery. This year, MVHS has been added to the impressive list of stops. The convoy of thirteen semi tractor trailer trucks loaded with handmade wreaths, motorcyclists, and numerous specially decorated vehicles carrying Gold Star family members and dignitaries including First Lady of Maine, Ann LePage, will be greeted at Route 90 and Route 1 in Warren by local police and fire trucks and escorted onto the school campus for a short ceremony in the auditorium.
During this event wreaths will be presented to veterans of seven wars, and to dignitaries from each of the five towns to be placed upon each town’s war memorial. Fourteen wreaths made by RSU#40 students will be presented for transport to Washington.
To witness the arrival of the convoy and to be present at the ceremony, the community is invited to arrive at MVHS by 2:00 on Sunday afternoon, December 6, 2015. Two hundred forty American flags have been donated by John Reny of Reny’s Department Store for this important event. Wear red, white, and blue and bring FLAGS to wave!
